Sensations of B4

Among the things that are vivid in my memory about the past are the freedom we experimented in our lives free from urban violence. We could stay out on the street playing hide'n'seek till late at night without worrying that something could happen to us. On weekends, we were free to ride our bikes for hours in a row feeling the warmth of the sun and the cool breeze on our faces as we adventured ourselves along the new paths behind the lands still being used to grow stawberries and raddishes on the outskirts of the city.
We sometimes got our kicks from getting a handful of strawberries without permission, just to experiment the sensation of playing with the danger of getting caught. Those were, if I recall well, the most delicious strawberries I have ever tasted. I can still see the red of the strawberries crushed in my hand as I closed my fists behind my back , once when my mother called me, while my friends giggled at the possibility of my being caught and not them.
I trembled at the sole thought of my mother's voice getting angry and pulling me into the house by an ear. What a relief it was then to know that she had called me just to offer me the 5 o'clock tea, a common snack in Bolivia in mid-afternoon.

  1. Yeah, Debs!
In the past, we didn't have to worry about violence, so our childhood was much freer than it is today!
